My research program will initially take advantage of data amassed over the last 10 years but not yet analyzed, these include time-lapse movies and confocal images of epithelial development. Student researchers and I will quantify and analyze cell parameters using public domain software. Hypotheses generated are then tested, as I and my former students have done in the past, using multiple genetic techniques including artificial selection and the UAS-GAL4 system. Thus, students are introduced to the scientific process conceptually while learning how to integrate different methodologies to answer questions.
